I think there might be some interference on my line that's affecting my internet connection, it's happened before. I'd like to be able to listen to the line to hear if there's any crackling but when I pick up the receiver you obviously get the dial tone and then a different even louder tone after that so you can't really hear. Is there a free number I can dial that's just silent so I can listen?

I'm with TalkTalk but this is a normal BT line.

I didnt know you could have Talk Talk Broadband and calls on a BT Line. Calls only yes but not broadband.

Who do you actually pay your line rental to?

TalkTalk.

If you pay your line rental to TT you havent got a BT Line. ;)

A good place to get help on TT services is their own forum www.talktalkmembers.com where their geeks hang out.

Heres one way.....

Make sure all of your sockets, ie phone, router, Sky, extension etc.... have filters on them.

Secondly lift your reciever. Dial 0

This will make the dial tone cut out and you will be able to hear if there is any background noise on your line. If your filters are not working or incorrectly installed, you might hear 'white noise' much like if your tv isnt tuned into a channel. This will prob be your broadband.

If its all ok, and you still hear noise, ie a humming noise, it could be an earth problem somewhere in the network. If you hear crackling, could be a contact problem on the network. Contact your service provider for more info.

Hope this helps :)

By the way, congratulations! This is the first genuine post I have seen from a new poster in something like 14 months!
